June 19, or Juneteenth, represents Independence Day for African Americans. Communities across the country recognize and honor this historic day by celebrating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans dating back to June 19, 1865.
Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley are home to a deep and rich Black history shaped by the contributions, resilience, culture, and leadership of African Americans who helped build and influence the region throughout generations. The Palm Springs Black History Committee remains dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and continuing to share the stories of the Black pioneers, families, leaders, and change makers whose impact helped shape the history of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
This year’s Juneteenth Celebration will feature an exciting lineup of educational experiences, cultural activities, community engagement, food vendors, and live entertainment produced by leaders throughout our community and partnering organizations.
