The Palm Springs Black History Committee invites you to become a sponsor for our 26th Annual Black History Month Events, February 2013.
The primary source of funding for Palm Springs Black History Month event is from corporate sponsors, local businesses, merchants and individuals such as you.
The events are held throughout the City of Palm Springs, CA during the entire month of February, 2013. The month kicks off with a Gospel Fest featuring local church groups performing praise dances, solo’s as well as gospel hip/hop. Our month ends with one of the most exciting and entertaining Parades in Palm Springs. There is also a Town Fair that is held at Frances Stevens Park in Palm Springs to end the month of activities with live entertainment, cultural/educational merchants, local and food vendors as well as a full carnival for the children. During the month there are an array of educational, cultural, sports and entertainment events produced by The Palm Springs Black History Committee as well.
As you may be aware The Palm Springs Black History Committee sponsors and produces an array of events leading up to and during the nationally recognized Black History Month in February, of each year. This will be our twenty fifth year. Our purpose is to continue to recognize and educate not only the African American community but Society as a whole the importance of Black History and contributions made to society by African Americans. The purpose is to promote unity and a spirit of cooperation within our community, as well as present events designed to educate our Coachella and Southern California residents about Black History. We are one of only two major cities in Southern California to sponsor a Black History Parade and the only city in California that host events throughout the entire month of February. Our events are educational, in areas such as history, health and fitness, youth educational events, community affairs, entertainment and more.
2013 promises to be another exciting year for Black History Month events again starting with our “Gospel Fest” on February 2, 2013. On February 7th we are hosting an “Artists & Their Works” event at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Our Black Tie Awards Gala will be February 9, 2013. Last year the Gala was held at the Hyatt Regency Suites, Palm Springs and this year will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Palm Springs. It was a great success with over 120 attendees celebrating the achievement of Valley Residents for their service to the community and society as a whole. Some of the recipients included current World Light Welterweight Champion Tim Bradley Jr, Former Mayor Ron Oden and local activist James O. Jessie. We sponsor a Basketball Tournament on February 16, 2013 with teams playing for trophies and bragging rights for the year. There is a King and Queen Pageant for the youth focusing on education. The biggest events produced are the Parade and Town Fair both held on February 23, 2013, the last Saturday of the month. Our Parade boasts the most bands of any parades in the Valley. The children as well as the adults enjoy watching not only our local school bands but we have the privilege to have marching bands for schools from around Southern California. The Town Fair is held at The Palm Springs Stadium and is always a great success. We have live entertainment locally and international entertainers as well. We’ve had nominated musical artist Omarion. With the Gospel Fest, Awards Gala, Parade and Town Fair events are always well attended , received, memorable and a great success!
With Federal, State, and City budget cuts as well as the recent economic downfall, The Palm Springs Black History Month events are in jeopardy of not being able to continue. Your sponsorship will help assure the success of The Palm Springs Black History Month events. Sponsorships will help schools to be able to participate in the parade and town fair. Sponsorship will help secure entertainment and security for Town Fair. Enclosed please find more information on these exciting events and its sponsorship levels. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to speaking with you at your earliest convenience.
